Step by step approach to SSCE Comprehension questions

WHAT IS COMPREHENSION

Comprehension is a process of reading,understanding and explaining what is written in a passage. For every comprehension exercise, there must be a passage to read. The main purpose of comprehension exercises is to test students understanding of a given passage. In comprehension the thoughts of the writer are presented to students for reading, understanding .

  SSCE Comprehensions is to test students understanding of the passage. After reading the passage you can interprete or something explain the contents based on your own words.it is when you,ve done  this that you can claim to have understood the passage.
Although you at liberty to make use of the passag from the passage, but you must be careful not to be too reckless in copying down the portion of the passage you feel answers the question.
    Always restrict your answers to your own understanding of the passage.No one is interested in your own personal opinionon the topic discussed in the passage.And most importantly do not copy verbative.

STEP BY STEP APPROACH

Do you know that SSCE demands a careful step by step approach.
Majority of the students who fail comprehension excersises fail because they are in a hurry to answer without taking time to understand the passage. Below are some of the steps in answering SSCE questions.

1.Read the passage carefully and make sure that you understand the passage. This may take you more than one minutes depending on your ability and skills to read and understand the passage.the first reading will draw you closer to the theme of the passage.then read the second time by taking note of the writer's attitude toward the subject of the passage. After the second reading you may read the question in order to know the main points emphasized in the passage.Then go for the third Reding of the passage and note the significant points that answer the question on the passage.
The reading the must be done quickly with full attention in order to have a total  understanding of the passage that you can now go back to the questions and start answering them.

2.in putting down your answers, they need not be written in sentences unless otherwise stipulated but make sure that you give only answer to a question.

3.Though you are free to use the words from the passage in your answers, you must be able to use your own words or expression to show your understanding of the passage.

4.where you are asked to show a comparison between two or more words in your answers,then your answers should show such.

5.where you are asked to substite a word or phrase in place of some underlined words in the passage, then the words  or the answer you give must  fit in perfectly in terms of  meaning and collocations
6.you must take time to spell your words correctly.

7. Your answers must be error free grammatically.
