What is the meaning of ICT, types and uses of ICT.

WHAT IS ICT

MEANING:  Ict is an acronym that stand for information and communication technology. Ict therefore covers any product that can store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive information electronically, in a digital form. Example personal computer, (pc),digital television, email, robots etc. 


TYPES OF ICT'S 
The types of ict's are;

 (1).broadcasting
 (2).Telecommunications
(3).Data networks
(4).Information systems
(5).Satellite communications

BROADCASTING

broadcasting is the distribution of video and audio content to  a dispersed audience, through  a medium such as radio, television etc. it is divided into three sub category which are listed below
(a)Radio broadcasting : radio. Broadcasting  is an audio broadcasting service, through the air as radio waves from an antenna to the receiving device.  It can be via AM (amplitude modulation). Or FM (frequency modulation ) stations.

(b).television broadcasting : television  broadcasting  involves digital broadcasting  and analogue broadcasting .digital broadcasting uses Digital signals 0s and 1s to transmit  video and audio content. while Analogue broadcasting uses varying amplitude or frequency  signals to transmit video and audio content.

NOTE: broadcasting on TV is usually on VHF( very high frequency). Or UHF (ultra high frequency).

TELECOMMUNICATIONS: This can be defined  as the exchange of information  over significant  distances,  using electronic medium such as telephone,  cables,  telegraph  etc.  It is subdivided into the following;

  • Public switched  telephone  network (PSTM) 
  • Mobile phone system (GSM) 
  • Circuit switched pavket Telephone  system (CSPT) 
  • Satellite  telephone  system  e.g thuraya device
  • Ficed wireless  telephone  system 
DATA NETWORK
This is an electronic communication system that allows the transmission  and receiving of data such as documents, text etc.
Some of the categories are

  • Personal  area Network (PAN) 
  • Local  area Network (LAN) 
  • Wide area Network (WAN) 
  • Metropolitan area Network (MAN) 
INFORMATION  SYSTEM
 This is the collection  of peoples, firms data, databases, telecommunication system that are used  for coagulation  and compilation, basically for statistical and analytic purposes .e.g

  • PHCN billing system
  • Tax compilation 
  • Payroll system 
  • Global positioning system (GPS) etc 
APPLICATION  OF ICT
Ict is one of the fastest growing field in the whole wide world. And through the use of internet  and ict gadget , there is an improvement in the educational secor, health care industry, communications industry and lots more of them.

OIL PRICES REDUCES BELOW ZERO NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices plunged below zero on Monday as demand for energy collapses amid the coronavirus pandemic and traders don’t want to get stuck owning crude with nowhere to store it. Stocks were also slipping on Wall Street in afternoon trading, with the S&P 500 down 0.9%, but the market’s most dramatic action was by far in oil, where benchmark U.S. crude for May delivery plummeted to negative $3.70 per barrel, as of 2:15 pm. Eastern time. Much of the drop into negative territory was chalked up to technical reasons — the May delivery contract is close to expiring so it was seeing less trading volume, which can exacerbate swings. But prices for deliveries even further into the future, which were seeing larger trading volumes, also plunged. Demand for oil has collapsed so much due to the coronavirus pandemic that facilities for storing crude are nearly full.
